Skincare is such an important part of our everyday lives and people go in search for that perfect skincare product or routine to achieve beautiful, smooth healthy skin. I am one of those people, constantly in search of products to make my skin smooth, plump, soft etc.
When I look for skincare products I tend to be drawn towards the organic, natural and/or vegan products ( thats not to say I dont use none vegan or organic products). Its been in my experience, that these products work best on my skin and I see instant results with these types of products. When I saw The Konjac Sponge Company at a blogging event, I was instantly drawn to them due to their cute stand display.
I saw these cute holographic boxes with a mermaid and unicorn on it (I am a total sucker for a unicorn) and I needed to know what this was. Initially, I thought it was some kind of stone for skincare, after all that is what it looks like in the packaging. It is in fact a sponge.
However, the packaging is one of the ranges that they have in these sponges. Each range has a different theme, but essentially they are the same product made from different vegetable fibres.
The Konjac Sponge is a 100% natural, vegan and cruelty free Korean facial sponge. They are made by hand in JeJu Island in South Korea, from the finest food grade konjac (Konjac potato is a plant native to Asia). It aids in deep cleaning and exfoliating for a natural glow to the skin.
I was completely taken a back when I was told it is made from potato, how innovative is that? A sponge made from a vegetable. The lady gave me a quick demo of the sponge, by wetting it in a bowl of water. On contact with the water the sponge expands and you use the sponge over the face before using a cleaners to cleanse/ exfoliate the face. The sponge does half the work for you.
At first I thought that it felt slimy but it is no in any way slimy, it is very soft and squishy in texture when it is wet. It feels amazing on the skin and leaves it feeling smooth and soft. It resembles a sea sponge in my opinion.
The sponges come in large or small and a wide range to choose from. I received one of the smaller sponges from the tropical rainforest range. I have been using my sponge for months, it still makes my skin so soft/ smooth and does give it a natural glow after using it. The one thing I will say, based on experience, is not to put face wash or soap onto the sponge and wash your face. It takes days, yes days to get the soap out of the sponge and defeats the purpose of having it.
Use the sponge before washing your face with soap / face wash or after.
As the sponge is made from potato, after a few uses it begins to look a bit dehydrated. However, I have been told by the Konjac Sponge team that this is normal. Once the small fibres begin to break, this is an indication that the sponge needs to be replaced, until then the sponge will spring back into shape once it is wet again.
Honestly, this is the coolest facial sponge that I have ever seen. I have never come across a skincare tool like this before or seen anything that is made from potato, of all things. If you are looking for a new product to try or something you have never tired before, I would recommend testing this out for yourself. I may make a difference to your skincare routine, it has become a permanent part of mine.
